Hill and College, Los Angeles Try dim sum for brunch on Sunday morning. Lots of touristy shopping opportunities. The Metro Gold Line (http://www.mta.net) has a Chinatown stop convenient to all the restaurants and shops.

6333 W. 3rd St., Los Angeles; (213) 933-9211 http://www.farmersmarketla.com This is not a traditional farmer’s market. More than 100 merchants selling meat, baked goods, produce, hot sauce, clothing, and gift items. Mon-Sat 9-7, Sun 10-6. Admission is free. Great breakfast destination!

  • Little Tokyo

1st and Alameda, Los Angeles Social, cultural and economic center of Southern California’s Japanese community.

  • Olivera Street

Sunset and Main, Los Angeles The birthplace of the city. A collection of Mexican shops. Olivera Street tour and El Pueblo de Los Angeles State Historic Park. Daily 10 am to 6 pm. Admission is free.
